Plan the table with paper first
Write down the number of guests and the pieces you need for the meal. Sketch the table shape and mark serving dishes, glasses and the space each person will use. Include any accessibility or seating needs already shared by guests.
Try the arrangement with the actual dishes before the day of the gathering. Check that people can reach what they need and that decorations do not block sight lines. Remove a decorative item if it makes the table awkward.
Keep a short setup list and take a reference photograph. Put reusable pieces together afterward. You will have a starting point next time without needing to recreate every detail.
